The Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty is a grassroots membership organization committed to educating the public about the flaws and injustices in the Illinois capital punishment system and promoting humane alternatives to the death penalty. ICADP was founded in 1976 and has since been the statewide leader for abolition. We have built a strong coalition including the Illinois Bar Association, the ACLU, Amnesty International, the Catholic Conference, the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs, the League of Women Voters, and other organizations. In March 2011, ICADP’s campaign succeeded in passing legislation that repealed the death penalty in the state, and as of July 1st, 2011, Illinois will be death penalty-free.
On this site, you will find many opportunities to get involved and a listing of upcoming events and activities. Though the death penalty has been repealed in Illinois, ICADP continues public education efforts in the community and with legislators to make sure capital punishment is never reinstated.
Together, we repealed the death penalty, and together we must continue to work to keep Illinois death-penalty free!
